The Alps in my backpack, a new all-terrain activity aid

Picnic tablecloth, blanket for a siesta, parasol, umbrella, windscreen...? The “The Alps in my backpack” tool is certainly multifunctional, but it is above all an all-terrain educational aid to put in your rucksack for activities linked to the Alps, mountain heritage and protected alpine areas! Measuring 240 x 150 cm and printed on a durable fabric, it shows the map of the Alps and all their principal protected nature reserves. It has been created collectively by members of the “Mountain environmental education in Alpine protected areas” working group, which had long wanted to benefit from a simple and practical shared tool during their activities, for addressing alpine issues in their global dimension, that is to say, beyond the usual boundaries. The goal is gradually to supplement this material tool with additional resources, downloadable online, developed collectively, translated into several Alpine languages and made available free of charge on the dedicated web page: www.alparc.org/backpack. These thematic records will cover the diversity of Alpine landscapes, emblematic species, the creation of the Alps, cultural and linguistic diversity, and current issues in the Alpine territory. They will also include a thematic Alpine deck of cards produced by SIG ALPARC.As part of the 2017 edition of “Youth at the top”, supervisors, animators and educators will be invited to film their use(s) or even abuse(s) of the Alps in my backpack tool, which ALPARC will bring together in a compilation. To obtain one or more copies of this tool, please contact info [at] alparc.orgCoordination: ALPARCConcept and content: ALPARC and  Mountain Environmental Education working groupCartographic data: SIG ALPARC 2016Graphic design: Régis FerréCo-financed by the German Ministry for the Environment and the Principality of Monaco
